London-based management consultant, Jane Northcote, has just published her first book. 'Making Change Happen' is an immensely practical guide to implementing business change: a valuable manual for anyone in the business world who needs to get things done.
Jane has been an independent consultant for over 10 years, working with individuals and teams in the corporate world. She wanted to collect together the principles she used in her work and produce a beautifully illustrated guide for all those interested in business change.
As a consultant with a busy practice, Jane needed help to make the book happen. She hired me as project manager, editor and thought partner, and the artist Lizzie Everard to design and illustrate the book.
Jane says:
"This has been a real team effort and I'm absolutely delighted with the result. I had no idea at the start how much good publicity a book would bring to my business. In terms of impressing my clients, this is the best 'calling card' I could ever leave behind. It positions me as a memorable expert in a very competitive field."
Making Change Happen by Jane Northcote is available from Blackwell bookshop in Bristol and Charing Cross, London and from www.amazon.co.uk.

Great reviews
The book has had great feedback from the UK and overseas, from US to Far East. Here's the latest:
"A book about Change, not exactly news- right? Well, yes. It is unusual. Unusually clear and practical. I had to tell you about it because I have just read it in 4 sittings and only one bottle of halfway decent Chenin Blanc. I felt it came at things from a different angle, from a pragmatists perspective.
It is a refreshingly light but thought provoking read seemingly devoid of theory and pomp. Because, it is about implementation. Rather than talk through the inordinate planning and communication strategies of change management it focuses on action rather than activity (a core message). Shocking, even to the point where you are convinced the writer has been through change herself.
It is different also because it has illustrations. I know, in a business book!I mean pictorial representations of concepts which really add to the message, not the sort of graphs or diagrams we usually see. Especially not THAT chart showing phases of change.
I found a number of truths in it and have already used it in persuading others to make change. Jane is not all about the theory and also not concerned with lengthy case studies. It is not so much well written as carefully edited. No need to fight through text to find the next key point , it is thankfully waffle and jargon free.
I read it and learnt something without headaches, referring to a textbook or needing to paraphrase once. My kind of writing, and the highlights are the tools and techniques which appear to be coaching based ideas. I will read this book again, and that is saying something."
